E agora, que se começam a implementar as primeiras medidas, para reanimar o pequeno comércio... vamos todos conscientemente, pensar no que vamos comprar...

Antes de irmos todos a correr, em direcção a muitas das nossas marcas de eleição... e depois de constatarmos que algumas das nossas lojas preferidas, até já poderão ter-se eclipsado, entretanto, para nossa incredulidade... sempre crescente, no que a este vírus diz respeito, e às suas capacidades de ter mudado radicalmente o nosso mundo, em tão curto espaço de tempo... lembremo-nos de que devemos continuar a arrumar a nossa casinha, em primeiro lugar... antes de começarmos a arrumar o mundo!...

Cada um de nós, deve apostar nos produtos e serviços do seu próprio país, nos tempos mais próximos, visando reforçar a capacidade produtiva, do mesmo... para que tudo se reorganize, o mais rapidamente possível, em cada país... de dentro... para fora!...

Before we all go running, towards many of our favorite brands... and after realizing that some of our favorite stores, may have already eclipsed by now, to our incredulity... always growing, in what this virus concerns, and its capabilities to have radically changed our world, in such a short time. We must remember ourselves, that we should continue to clean our own house, first... before we start tidying up the world!...

Each one of us, should bet on the products and services of his own country, in the near future, aiming to strengthen the productive capacity, of the same ... so that everything is reorganized, as quickly as possible, in each country... from the inside... out!...

Fighting the fire...

É tão triste verificar, que parece existir uma indústria do fogo, no nosso país...

Uns morrem... outros ficam marcados, para o resto das suas vidas... outros perdem tudo o que têm... há os que arriscam a sua vida, para salvar outros e os seus haveres (na primeira foto, podem ver-se meios aéreos a fazerem descargas de água, relativamente próximo de cabos de alta tensão)... e outros fazem destas circunstâncias, uma oportunidade de negócio....

A área ardida no nosso país, só neste Verão, ultrapassou largamente, a área ardida ao longo dos últimos dez anos.

Tudo isto, é profundamente lamentável... e irremediável, nas próximas décadas... em termos humanos, económicos e ambientais... e aparentemente tudo continua ainda, sem quaisquer soluções à vista... por forma, a que os fogos de origem criminosa, conheçam uma considerável redução...

Combatendo o fogo - I / Fighting the fire - I

"Policy is one of these fires that ignite in the house of the other, but what burns is our house." (MIA COUTO, in "Vinte e Zinco"; my own translation).

It is so sad to notice that there seems to be a fire industry in our country...

Some people die... others are marked for the rest of their lives... others lose everything they have... some risk their lives, to save others and their belongings (In the first picture, you can see, aerial fire-fighting means, making water discharges, relatively close to high voltage cables)... and others make from all these circumstances a business opportunity...

The burned area in our country, only this Summer, was much larger than the area burned during the ten years immediately preceding.

All this is deeply regrettable... and irremediable in the coming decades, in human, economic and environmental terms... and apparently everything is still going on, without any solutions in sight, in order that fires of criminal origin, can be considerably reduced...

Eu lembrei-me do mais recente ocupante da Casa Branca... que promete pintar a manta, e o cabelo, em cada dia do seu mandato... e tornar cada dia da sua presidência, e do mundo... bem incerto, intenso e colorido...

Amanhã, dia 10 de Junho, comemora-se no nosso país, o Dia de Portugal, de Camões, e das Comunidades Portuguesas.

Porque as questões económicas, políticas e sociais nunca saem da ordem do dia, deixo-vos algumas palavras de um antigo Presidente da Republica, e uma música, que espero que gostem tanto quanto eu... e que tão bem simboliza, o espírito deste dia...

Às vezes, por mais que o tempo passe... parece que o tempo, não passa pelo tempo... e tudo permanece igual...

Às vezes, em economia, tal como na política... parece que não existem mesmo métodos fáceis, para resolver problemas difíceis...
Simplesmente... porque não há vontade nisso.

Há alguns dias atrás tive a oportunidade de tirar esta foto ao entardecer.

Achei fantástico o jogo de cores e luzes, que o céu foi adquirindo, contrastando com a sombra do candeeiro, ainda apagado, no final da tarde.

Achei esta foto perfeita, para descrever o actual estado de espírito de muitos portugueses, face às mudanças que se avizinham nas suas vidas, a partir do próximo ano, devido às novas medidas de austeridade, que a partir daí entrarão em vigor.

Persistindo no mesmo tipo de medidas, sem quaisquer reformas genuínas no Sector do Estado, os nossos governantes têm-se revelado, nas últimas décadas, apenas eficientes na colecta de impostos, mas sem ideias nem empenho para resolver os problemas de fundo da nossa economia, que permanecem, e cuja resolução se vai contornando e adiando ao sabor das vantagens e desvantagens eleitorais.

Aguardemos por dias mais luminosos... com ideias mais brilhantes e corajosas, do que as que temos visto até agora... para não ficarmos como o candeeiro da foto...

Com as nossas vidas desligadas por um tempo!

E com uma visão muito pouco optimista, relativamente ao futuro mais próximo...

Procuram-se ideias luminosas!... / Looking for bright ideas!...

 

A few days ago, I had the chance to take this photo, at sunset.

I found amazing the colors and lights that the sky was getting, in the late afternoon, constrasting with the shadow of the lamp, still switched off, at that hour.

 

I found this photo perfect, to describe the present mood of many portuguese people, given the changes that lie ahead in their lives, starting next year, due to the new austerity measures, that will take effect from then.

 

Persisting in the same type of measures, without any genuine reforms in the State Sector, our governments have proved, in recent decades, to be efficient merely in the tax collection, but with no ideas, or making much effort to solve the fundamental problems of our economy, which remain, and whose resolution is always bypassed and delayed at the mercy of advantages or disadvantages from elections.

 

Let us wait for brighter days... with some more brilliant and courageous ideas, than the ones we have seen so far... which have make us feel like the lamp on the photo...

With our lives switched off for a while!

And with a not much optimistic vision regarding the near future...

 

Here is an inspirational thought, in a few words, and really pertinent, given the current political environment in our country, lived along this week...

No rumo certo? / In the right direction?

Aqui fica uma foto, de um cenário calmo e pacífico, para serenar os ânimos, poucas horas depois dos portugueses terem tomado conhecimento de que surpresas agradáveis lhes estarão reservadas para o próximo ano, após a apresentação do Orçamento de Estado para 2014, e de terem escolhido um local confortável para se deixarem cair para trás, de tanta emoção, perante o efeito do «choque de expectativas», prometido pelo nosso governo.

Haverá mais do mesmo, ficou-se a saber... uma série de medidas de, ainda, maior austeridade.

Para os mesmos do costume... classe média e reformados... (e viúvos, que terão tratamento VIP e específico, neste orçamento).

Para se obter o resultado de sempre... empobrecimento geral, que os nossos governantes defendem ser a cura de todos os males da economia do nosso país e o segredo infalível para o crescimento económico... Na mesma lógica de que, se se matar um doente à fome, como é evidente, cura-se a doença de que padece...

Por aqui achamos, que só mesmo os patinhos da imagem, crédulos e inocentes, ainda acreditam que tais medidas nos farão seguir no rumo certo para combater a crise, promover o crescimento económico, e conseguir pagar a dívida do país...
Uma verdadeira reforma do Estado?
Soluções para combater o desemprego?
Taxas aplicadas a operações de capitais?
Ficaram esquecidas, como sempre...
 

Deixamos, hoje por aqui, uma das mais acertadas definições sobre o que é a política, que conseguimos encontrar.

No rumo certo? / In the right direction?

Here is an image, from a quiet and peaceful setting, to calm tempers, just a few hours after the portuguese people, had become aware of the pleasant surprises that can be expected for next year, after the presentation of the State Budget for 2014, and after they had chosen a confortable place to dropped backwards, with so much emotion, by the «shock effect of expectations», promised by our government.

There will be more of the same... more measures of even greater austerity.

For the usual suspects... middle class and retired people (and widowers who will have VIP and specific treatment in this budget).

 

To achieve de same result... general impoverishment, that our rulers, claim to be the cure for all the ills of our country's economy and the infalible secret for economic growth... in the same logic that, if a pacient dies of hunger, he will stay cured of the disease from which he suffered...

 

Over here, we find that only the little ducks on the photo, credulous and naive, still believe that, such measures, will make us follow in the right direction, to fight the crisis, promote economic growth, and manage to pay the country's debt.

A genuine reform of the State?

Solutions to fight unemployment?

Rates applied on capital operations?

Were forgotten, as usual...

 

We left here, today, one of the most pertinent definitions of what it is politics, that we managed to find.

Para que se faça luz... / To bring some light...

Por aqui fica hoje, uma foto de um céu bem luminoso, talvez para aclarar as mentes de alguns espíritos menos iluminados,  de ideias turvas pela ambição e jogos de poder, que insistem em colocar os interesses próprios à frente dos interesses do nosso país, a que tão orgulhosamente dizem servir, mas em relação ao qual parecem tudo fazer para o comprometer internacionalmente, dado o actual contexto económico, de crise, na semana seguinte à qual os portugueses, descobrem novamente... e irrevogavelmente (palavra muito em voga no vocabulário português, por estes dias), que em contexto político, tudo pode ser verdade... ou não, no espaço de poucas horas... ou dias...
 

Por aqui fica também mais um pensamento, vindo do passado, mas muito adequado ao tempo presente, de uma forma bem assertiva... acompanhado de uma foto sugestiva... para que se faça alguma luz... nas cabeças dos nossos políticos.

Para que se faça luz... / To bring some light...

Here stays, today a photo of a bright sky, perhaps to lighten up the minds of some less lighted spirits, with some turbid ideas by ambition and games of power, insisting on putting their own interests ahead of our country's interests, what so proudly claim to serve, but to which they seem to do all they can to let it fall to the eyes of the world, given the current economic climate, of crisis.

 

Here stays, also, another thought, coming out from the past, but very appropriate to the present times, in  a very assertive way, the week after portuguese people having discovered again... and irrevocably (a word very much in vogue on the portuguese vocabulary, by these days), that in the political context, anything can be true... or not... in a matter of a few hours... or days.

Portugal comparável à Grécia? / Portugal comparable to Greece?

A explosão de acontecimentos políticos que tem assolado o nosso país, nestes últimos dias, não poderia estar mais adequada à foto, que por aqui vos deixo hoje.

A comparação com um vulcão é inevitável, face à situação, ao rubro, em que mergulhou o panorama político, em Portugal, com a actual crise política, e respectivas consequências económicas, financeiras... e sociais, em breve.
 

Aqui fica uma foto, de uma fonte, com o formato de um vulcão, situada no Parque das Nações, local onde se realizou a Exposição Mundial de 1998, acompanhada de um grande pensamento, vindo do passado... e mais actual do que nunca.

A genialidade de Eça de Queiróz, escritor português, perdura através do tempo e continua tão actual hoje, como quando foi escrito este texto, em 1872, na publicação jornalística mensal intitulada «As Farpas».

Aqui fica um pequeno excerto...

"Nós estamos num estado comparável, correlativo à Grécia: mesma pobreza, mesma indignidade política, mesmo abaixamento dos carácteres, mesma ladroagem pública, mesma agiotagem, mesma decadência de espírito, mesma administração grotesca de desleixo e confusão.

À beira de um vulcão / On the edge of a volcano

The explosion of political events, here in Portugal, in these last few days, could not be more suited to the photo that I leave here, today.

A comparison with a volcano is inevitable, given the situation running high, that plunged the political scene in Portugal, with the current political crisis and its economic and financial consequences... and social, soon.
 

Here is a photo from a fountain, shaped like a volcano, located at the Park of Nations, where it took place the World Expo 1998, together with a great thought, coming out from the past, above, authored by Eça de Queiroz, in 1872, and which seems to make sense more than ever.

Palavras, que revelam uma grande sensibilidade social e um profundo conhecimento da realidade, da sua época, que em muitos aspectos, parece continuar inalterável nos dias de hoje.

Só poderiam ser de Eça de Queiroz, estas palavras.

Escritor português, falecido no início do século XX, mas cuja brilhante e acutilante crítica social e política continua tão actual, quanto o foi na sua época.

Things seem to repeat themselves, over and over, like the waves and tides...

Eça's words, appear to make more sense than ever.

His words reveal great social awareness and a deep understanding from the reality of his time, which, in many ways, seems to remain unalterable to the present day.

He was a portuguese writer, who died in the beginning of the twentieth century, but whose brilliant sharpness, of his social and political criticism, remains as present, as it was in his time.
