Estamos em contagem decrescente para a próxima conferência do clima da ONU (Organização das Nações Unidas), a realizar em Glasgow.

Grandes avanços, em acordos sobre o clima a uma escala global... não se perspectivam... sobretudo, quando alguns dos países mais poluentes, nem se farão representar, e outros não estão dispostos a fazer cedências nos seus objectivos de crescimento económico.

We are counting down to the next United Nations climate conference, to be held in Glasgow.

Great advances, in climate agreements on a global scale... are not expected... especially when some of the most polluting countries will not even be represented, and others are unwilling to compromise on their economic growth goals.

Estudos recentes, apontam para o facto de 75% da superfície do nosso planeta, já ter sido alterada ou degradada, em função da actividade humana.

Será que a sobrevivência, ou o bem estar das sociedades humanas, passará por nada conservar, deste mundo, da sua versão original?

Recent studies point to the fact that 75% of our planet's surface has already been altered or degraded as a result of human activity.

Will the survival, or the well-being of human societies, mean conserving nothing of this world in its original version?

Enquanto todos continuamos a lutar, contra uma pandemia global... outros seres, também estão, silenciosamente, a travar uma batalha bem semelhante...

Cientistas, creem que um fungo de nome "Nosema", e que afecta o sistema digestivo das abelhas, tem contribuído para uma diminuição extremamente preocupante, das suas colónias em vários países da Europa, embora outras variedades deste fungo, também tenham sido já encontradas na África do Sul, Quénia, Rússia, Brasil, Estados Unidos e Canadá.

Antibióticos e suplementos alimentares, são a solução para o problema... assim estejamos dispostos a dar a devida atenção ao mesmo... e a pensar, no imprescindível papel que estes pequenos seres têm, no nosso mundo.

While we all continue to fight, against a global pandemic... other beings are also silently fighting a very similar battle...

Scientists believe that a fungus called "Nosema", which affects the digestive system of bees, has contributed to an extremely worrying decrease in its colonies in several countries in Europe, although other varieties of this fungus have also been found in South Africa, Kenya, Russia, Brazil, United States and Canada.

Antibiotics and food supplements are the solution to the problem... as long as we are willing to give due attention to it... and to think, about the essential role that these small beings have, in our world.

A world to recover...

A pressão sobre os habitats naturais... seja através da desflorestação, seja pelo alargamento das zonas habitacionais, ou agrícolas... estará a abrir uma verdadeira Caixa de Pandora, em matéria de libertação de vírus desconhecidos.

Também o degelo das camadas polares, estará a devolver vírus ou bactérias de outras eras... ao nosso presente.

Definitivamente, muitos dos nossos hábitos consumistas, e a nossa consciência, sobre o meio ambiente, mudarão obrigatoriamente, nem que seja através de consequências... como as que experimentamos actualmente... e que num curtíssimo espaço de tempo... alteraram ou condicionaram, profundamente, a nossa forma de viver, a todos os níveis...

Um mundo a recuperar... / A world to recover...

"We cut the trees; we kill the animals or cage them and send them to markets. We disrupt ecosystems, and we shake viruses loose from their natural hosts, When that happens, they need a new host. Often, we are it." (DAVID QUAMMEN, writer, quoted by The Guardian).

The pressure on natural habitats... be it through deforestation or the expansion of residential or agricultural areas... will open a real Pandora's Box, in terms of the release of unknown viruses.

The melting of the polar layers will also be returning viruses or bacteria from other eras... to our present.

Definitely, many of our consumerist habits, and our conscience, about the environment, will necessarily change, even if it is through consequences... like the ones we currently experience... and that in a very short time, profoundly changed or conditioned, our way of living at all levels...

Cerca de 80% do oxigénio que respiramos é produzido nos oceanos... e contudo, continua a não haver políticas concertadas, à escala global, para que se evite uma acentuada e cada vez mais acelerada perda de biodiversidade, e o colapso de ecossistemas marinhos...

Plásticos... são polímeros produzidos a partir de um processo petroquímico... e um perigoso componente, cada vez mais presente nos ecossistemas, e nas cadeias alimentares...

Sabiam que, há 17 meses consecutivos, estão a ser batidos os máximos mensais de temperatura média global?...

As alterações climáticas estão aí... e a ocorrer a um ritmo bem mais rápido, do que se julgaria...

O nosso planeta, parece irremediavelmente destinado, a tornar-se num futuro não muito distante, num lugar quase tão inóspito e sem vida quanto o nosso satélite natural, e apesar de tudo... políticas ambientais... continuam a não ser prioridade máxima, na ordem do dia...

Did you know that for 17 consecutive months, the monthly maximum average global temperature is being hit?...
Climate change it is a reality... and it is occuring  at a much faster rhythm than one would think...
Our planet seems hopelessly destined to become, in a not too distant future, a place almost so inhospitable and lifeless, as our natural satellite, and however... environmental policies... continue not to be a top priority on the agenda of the most countries...

Hoje limito-me apenas, a deixar por aqui, uma imagem... para contextualizar um despertar de consciências... pelo facto de estarmos a transformar o nosso planeta, num autêntico Inferno... para nós mesmos... e sobretudo, para as gerações vindouras.

Um despertar de consciências... / An awakening of consciences...

Today I limit myself, just to leave here, an image... in order to contextualize an awakening of consciences... for the fact that we are turning our planet into a real hell... for ourselves... and above all, for coming generations.

Biodiversity...

É curioso... mas provavelmente, saberemos mais sobre a superfície do planeta Marte... do que sobre as zonas mais profundas dos oceanos, do nosso próprio mundo...

Aqui fica mais uma imagem, de um pequeno hot-spot, cheio de biodiversidade, que podemos encontrar, numa pequena poça de maré, junto à costa ocidental portuguesa...

A acção das ondas, e as formações rochosas, protegem algumas espécies dos seus predadores...

It is curious... but probably we know more about the surface of Mars... than about the deepest parts of the oceans, of our own world...
Here it stays today, another image of a small hot-spot, full of biodiversity, that we can find in a small tide pool, on the portuguese west coast.
The wave action, and the rock formations, protects some species of its predators...
