Esta pintura, pretende representar estes dois conceitos...
O Egoísmo é o oposto do altruísmo.
Quando somos egoístas, fechamo-nos para o mundo e para os outros...
Tornamo-nos no centro do nosso próprio universo, visando apenas a realização dos nossos desejos e vontades.
Representei o egoísmo através de um cubo, estilizado, no centro da minha pintura, o qual pode ser observado através de uma ilusão de óptica.
Significa que, sendo egoístas, estamos confinados no nosso pequeno mundo, quadrado, porque é um mundo só nosso, diferente do mundo dos outros, e fechado para a realidade que nos rodeia, como uma caixa.
O Altruísmo, pelo contrário, na minha pintura, é representado por um movimento de dentro para fora, em espiral crescente, na medida em que, por nos importarmos com o que se passa em nosso redor, as nossas acções tendem a beneficiar os outros, implicando abertura, dádiva, generosidade e partilha...
De dentro para fora, procurei assim, simbolizar o altruísmo, na minha pintura, através das pétalas, estilizadas, de uma flor.
Tal como as flores, as nossas acções, quando beneficiam os outros, tornam tudo melhor e mais bonito à nossa volta.
Cabe-nos, a nós, escolher se queremos pertencer a um mundo pequenino, distorcido e aborrecido, no qual só nós cabemos nele, ou se queremos pertencer a um mundo maior, mais bonito, colorido e agradável, onde cabemos nós... e os outros.

Selfishness is the opposite of altruism.
When we are selfish, we close ourselves to the world and to others...
We become the center of our own universe, just seeking the achievement of our desires and wishes.
I represented selfishness, in the center of my painting, with the shape of a stylized cube, which can be seen through an optical illusion.
It means that, when we are selfish, we are confined to our little world, square, because it is different from everybody else's world, and closed to reality around us, as a box.
Altruism, by the contrary, in my painting, is represented by a movement from inside out, with the use of a growing spiral.
Because we care about what goes on around us, our actions, tend to benefit others. That involves openness, support, generosity and sharing.
So, in my painting, from the inside out movement, I tried to symbole altruism, through the stylized representation of petals from a flower.
Like flowers, our actions, when benefit others, make everything even better and more beautiful around us.
It is up to us to choose whether we belong to a very small world, twisted and boring in which only each one of us fits into it, or if we prefer to belong to a larger world, more beautiful, colorful and pleasant, where we can fit... and others too.
